If you see the word “Volunteer” on the back of
several shirts around Scioto County, you are probably witnessing some of the
community service that is provided by the Portsmouth Kiwanis Aktion Club and
the STAR, Inc. !MPACT team.
“Kiwanis is the only service organization that
has a service club for adults with disabilities,” said Shawn Jordan, publicity
chairman for the Portsmouth Kiwanis and Awareness Coordinator for the Scioto
County Board of Developmental Disabilities. “The Aktion Club here in
Portsmouth, along with the !MPACT team of STAR, Inc. are a phenomenal group of
individuals who have already donated more than 4000 hours of community service
in a little over a year. It was more than our pleasure to support them.”
The Portsmouth Kiwanis Club voted Tuesday,
July 1, to donate $600 toward the purchase of new shirts for the Aktion Club.
The shirts are worn while the club is providing volunteer services throughout
the community.
“ The Aktion Club volunteers at the Salvation
Army, along highways to clean debris, at various organization while providing
reading services to children or music therapy to nursing homes. These
individuals use their talents to help others and it is an honor that they are
part of our Kiwanis family,” she said.
