Sun Coke Donates to SCBDD Sign Project

Sun Coke of Haverhill has donated $2,000 for a new sign to be constructed in front of Vern Riffe School at the corner of Mabert Road and Gallia Street.

The sign will be used to communicate what Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities is, what services are offered at the VRS site, and welcome visitors to the site. Upon completion, the sign project will help SCBDD better communicate with the public at large.

“Since the sign will be programmable, it will be another mode of communication to share information about upcoming events and other topics,” said Superintendent Julie Monroe. “We are very appreciative of Sun Coke and the interest they have taken in our program.”

It isn’t the first time Sun Coke has partnered with SCBDD to give back to the community. Last Christmas, the company served a pizza lunch for students and employees at VRS. They also brought gifts for all the students. Walker said it was upon seeing the gratitude from students and staff that Sun Coke employees decided to partner regularly with VRS and SCBDD.

“It doesn’t get a whole lot better than this,” Walker said.

The VRS building also houses Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities’ Service & Support Administration offices and administrative offices.
