The PTO of Vern
Riffe School has a tradition of outstanding holiday basket raffles and 2019
offers the community another opportunity to support students in Cardinal
Country. Funds raised will help the PTO purchase holiday gifts for the more
than 70 students at VRS.
What makes this
raffle even more special is that each classroom creates its own “basket,” which
is really a prize bundle tied together with a theme. Some themes include an
Amazon prize bundle; a sweet holiday treats bundle; a “Scent of the Seasons”
bundle; and a “Nightmare Before Christmas” bundle, among others. A full catalog
is available on the Scioto County Developmental Disabilities Facebook page.
Tickets are $1
each or six tickets for $5. They can be purchased at Vern Riffe School or from
staff or PTO members. The drawing will begin at 1 p.m., Dec. 18. It is held in
the school office, with a student representative from each classroom pulling
the winning ticket for each prize.
The gifts are purchased
by PTO volunteers, then delivered by Santa and his elves when they visit
Cardinal Country before the holiday break.
“The PTO is
invaluable to our student body,” said VRS Principal Tammy Guthrie. “Buying
raffle tickets not only gives you a chance at some wonderful prizes, but it contributes
to the students’ educational experience and allows for each one to receive at
least one present from Santa.”
