Named after long-time State Representative Vernal G. Riffe, the Vern Riffe School has been a staple in providing school services to children with developmental disabilities. After completing a placement process, students ages 6 to 21 are enrolled at Vern Riffe School.
Each classroom houses six to eight students who are instructed by a teacher and an aide. According to the needs of each student, nursing services, service coordination, and therapy (speech, occupational and physical) are also available.
Students participate in basic academics as well as extra-curricular activities such as basketball and volleyball, where teamwork and good sportsmanship are learned.
The school is located at 2619 Gallia Street, Portsmouth, Ohio.
