SCDD celebrates Richard Bolin
The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities recognized former board member Richard Bolin during its April meeting. Bolin retired in February of 2021 after more than 10 years as a member of the board.

Bolin began his career in education at Clay, and later accepted a teaching assignment at the Vern Riffe School - which was called Happy Hearts at the time - in August of 1989. He retired from teaching in 2002. It wasn’t long, however, before Bolin was back in the seat - joining the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities in December of 2010.

Because of COVID in 2021, the Board delayed their celebration of Bolin’s career and service until early in 2022 when it was safer to gather. The board presented Bolin with a special award in appreciation of his service during the April 21 board meeting.

“The Scioto DD has had some terrific triumphs over the years, and Rick was right there helping make those decisions that helped make the organization what it is today. Although we’ve got a heck of a long way to go, it was because of the actions of Rick, and other board members, who helped pave the way to get on the trajectory that I feel like we’re on,” said Matt Purcell, superintendent of the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities typically meets on the third Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. in the Carousel Center, located at 1112 Gallia St., in Portsmouth, Ohio. The next board meeting will be on May 26.
