The Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities (SCBDD), which
includes the Carousel Center Preschool, Vern Riffe School, Adult Services and
the Vocation Station, has been accredited by the state of Ohio for the quality
services and supports it provides to people with disabilities.
The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) issued an
accreditation certificate to SCBDD on Nov. 5.
“We are proud to be recognized for our quality services by the state. We
are continually seeking input on ways we can improve and provide the best
quality services possible. This is great recognition for us,” said Julie
Monroe, superintendent for the Scioto County Board of Developmental
Disabilities.
A comprehensive review of SCBDD was conducted this year by DODD. The
accreditation review is a very rigorous and thorough process, spanning approximately
six months. A team of surveyors from DODD reviewed all areas of operations
including personnel, administration, services and support and other indicators
of the general efficiency and effectiveness of the County Board in the community
it serves.
“The surveyors look through records, review our processes and
procedures, talk to staff and spend a significant amount of time learning our
operations. It is a very detailed survey,” said Monroe.
The results of the review found that the Scioto County Board of
Developmental Disabilities achieved a substantial compliance with minimum
standards.
“We are given notice to prepare for the accreditation review and
immediately begin looking over all of our processes and procedures,” Monroe
said, “the entire review takes many staff hours and a great deal of
coordination between programs and departments. But we work together as a team
to always put our individuals first and that is why we have such great programs
and services.”
The DODD commented in a letter to the SCBDD, “The staff of the Scioto
County Board of Developmental Disabilities is to be commended for their efforts
in achieving this service accreditation, as recognized by the state’s review.”
